Zoopharmacognosy (Animal Self-Medication) can be used prior to Healing to provide a very unique and special combination. It allows the animal to use their innate ability to select the plant extracts they need to keep themselves healthy. When an animal is ill, suffering from emotional problems or past trauma, essential oils can often address problems in ways that conventional medicine can’t as they work on the physiological aspect. In extreme cases this can open the animal up to the acceptance of healing by working deeply on their subconscious inducing a more relaxed state of acceptance depending on what oil is selected and the route of application.
Animals must be free to choose their route of application which can be by inhalation, taking oils orally or indicating where they would like it topically. It is also important to note that oils should never be put in feed as you might be forcing an oil on them that they don’t need or they might avoid the feed because they don’t need the oil in it.

Each plant contains active constituents which produce a physiological effect on the body and can trigger a healing response which ultimately contributes to healing. Animals know exactly what they need as a specific signal is sent that links whatever health issue they have to a smell or taste pathway. When the animal has consumed the specific constituent it needs and starts to heal, the signals are no longer sent to those pathways and the animal is no longer drawn to the smell or taste of that active constituent.
Zoopharmacognosy is a wonderful complement to Healing and will help instil trust and take the animal to a more peaceful state of being.

I also work on the Bladder Meridian, one of the key techniques of The Masterson Method, which is one of the major acupuncture meridians in a horse's body and has the unique effect in that it balances the other acupuncture meridians. It runs from the head through three major junctions: poll, withers and sacroiliac and then down the hindquarters to the coronet band. This is a very interactive process which will help engender trust and enable your horse to indicate where he may be guarding tension and how he will respond to me.
A horse's response to Healing is very real, there is no Placebo effect, they intuitively recognise spiritual energy and they often indicate where they need Healing. |
