Equine Sensory Enrichment is an amazing way of helping horses enrich their lives by using natural plant and herb remedies, a lot of which they would naturally forage for in the wild.
We start off with a Healing Attunement to create a safe space for them to open up and trust. Everything is on a self-selection basis and we start by offering them beautiful hydrosols of Rose and Neroli sprayed onto cloths so that they can sniff/inhale the aromas which go straight to the limbic centre (the emotional centre of the brain) which affects mood and behaviour. This on its own is often enough to induce a deep relaxation. We then offer Essential oils of Violet Leaf and Yarrow both of which have amazing properties and can help access a deeper level of healing where a horse is perhaps suffering emotionally from any past trauma. We then offer a selection of herb-infused oils: Rosehip, Calendula (Marigold), Bladderwrack (Seaweed), Chickweed, Nettle and Mint and also Linseed. They all help with different Equine conditions and can be indicative of what a horse is requiring depending what he selects. There will also be fresh tree browse when available, dried herbage and last but not least Ginger, and Garlic honey. |
Sometimes, in the first session, your horse might not want to engage perhaps feeling guarded but in the follow up he will have had time to process the session and will be much more interested and engaged. No two sessions are ever the same!
Equine Sensory Enrichment can be offered alongside conventional medicine providing help not only on a physical level but also on an emotional level if your horse is struggling to cope. It is also ideal for horses on rehabilitation, for injury or illness, or box rest where they have limited turnout.
A full history will be taken before any treatment begins.
